Oh man, oh man have I found a tune for you.
Cincinnati based group, Walk the Moon, are finally ready for their pop-rock takeover. “Shut Up and Dance with Me” is the first single off their upcoming major label release Talking is Hard, due out later this year.
Walk the Moon is comprised of members Nicholas Petricca, Kevin Ray, Sean Waugaman, and Eli Maima.
In 2012 Walk the Moon had a break out hit on the radio in “Anna Sun” – which I wasn’t very fond of even before it was eventually overplayed. I couldn’t feel more opposite for this single and the new album. “Shut Up and Dance with Me” changed the way I feel about a band and made them an artist I look forward to hearing what they put out. That’s pretty massive.
The band used a series of sly online marketing tactics to announce the single and gain hype. In the social media day and age they nailed it. The series of clues kept up the fun vibe of the song too, allowing their fans to prepare for what they could expect.
“Shut Up and Dance with Me” had me doing exactly that from the very first listen. Dancing to my heart’s content. It is everything you’d expect out of a indie anthem that just oozes energy. Even the non-believers will love the dance floor after hearing this tune. It’s got a fun and youthful melody that’s paired with a chorus that just begs you to start singing along loudly at the bar or in your car.
Not only that but “Shut Up and Dance with Me” has plenty of lyrical charm. The words contain no high brow illusions or metaphors, but entice the listener with simple and fun rhyming that adds to the sing-along quality.
So would you do the honor of pressing play and dancing along with me?
Until next time,
