After I graduated from university I was a bit aimless (That’s probably putting it nicely.) For four years of my life I had everything I wanted to do within a short distance and plenty of people to do those things with. Even if none of your closest friends wanted to go to an event, on a small liberal arts campus chances are you would know someone who was. As a post-grad you suddenly realize that’s not the case. There were so many things I wanted to try and do and explore (constantly seeking wonder remember?) But instead of simply doing things myself and making new friends I sat at home. Whomp.
Starting this blog has really broken me out of that rut and introduced me to a wonderful new world. I’ve gone out of my comfort zone and for that I’ve met great people and done amazing things. I continuously realize I’m lucky to live where I do with the passions and interests I have. First, I found the lovely group of Minnesota bloggers who have quickly become friends and I am so grateful for that. Now thanks to one of those ladies I have another community that I am happy to be a part of. I’ve always been into photography, but blogging has really piqued that interest in the last few months. Many of you who follow me already on Instagram have seen a sudden shift in being more conscious of what I post.
Rachel, a fellow MN blogger had been inviting me to these little things called Minnstameets (as in Minnesota Instagram Meets, cute huh?) for a few months. It’s a group of dedicated Instagram fans from around the state that meet up in various locations to shoot. The sculpture garden, an old barn…the list goes on. I hadn’t been able to make it to one yet, but this past Saturday there was a mini one I attended and the only thing I regret is that I didn’t get involved with this community earlier! The mini-Minnstameet was held at Prospect Park Witches Tower in Minneapolis. (Otherwise known as the tower Bob Dylan sang about in “All Along the Watchtower”) It is a small area on top of a hill that overlooks downtown Minneapolis. About 30 of us showed up – I guess the official Minnstameets usually have about 100. Not only was everybody friendly they are incredibly talented! Looking through the day’s tag there was so much creativity. I had to highlight some of it – especially because I know as bloggers we are looking for good people on Instagram to follow. It was hard to pick a few to showcase here because there’s almost 100 posts and they’re all brilliant. All of these people below and the rest in the tag are worth a follow if you’re looking for inspiration on your feed. You can’t go wrong. Check out their photos and give them some love!

Somebody even brought a drone. They mean serious business.
🔹CakeTower Minnstameet 🔹 What a badass day i had yesterday.. We went to lots of places first thing in the morning ( Basilica, #AttheWalker , Cemetery and Saw a very special double helix spiral staircase ) Then we hit this Instameet that started at a cupcake joint and ended in this Water Tower with a Skyline View.. So many awesome genuine igers on the meet just to mention a few : @unicorndelusions , @jeff_prose , @eevildee , @clint_jee_ , @mrsjdudas and @rizogram … When i was packing up my drone🚁 this random chick approached me and asks me ” Did you fly that toy?” i was like yes then she says ” Well that thing stirred up pollen and i am allergic to it so could you please consider other people before flying it” so i was like ok.. But in my head i was like so the high wind is not a factor and i guess i am flying an Apache to stir pollen all over 😂😂❗️ bitch was dumb as hell so i was like no need to argue ” YOU RIGHT👍🏾” , so after the whole #caketowerminiminnstameet we ended up in a brewery 🍻 chillin with the folks and no dont consume alcohol so chill 😂, Then we departed separated ways and hit up some bridges .. Fun shit and met up with Big @scubaluu for a lil bit .. Then from 8:30pm to 3:00 am we did Light Painting all over Minnie City like a Boss❗️❗️ with @rizogram , @clint_jee_ and @mplsmoneymike .. We got some dope shit .. 1 day turns into a 30 days worth of posting 😂.. More Minneapolis shots cooking so stay seated please..😄👌🏾💥 || #deftonysrealm #dronetivity #minnstameets #minnstagrammers #bestofminnesota #droneoftheday #witchestower #twincities #igersminnesota #igerstwincities A photo posted by ©harlie 〽️artinez ™ (@deftony83) on
The group got along so well we wandered over to Surly Brewery and all had a few beers. More pictures were to be taken obviously too.

After spending a day with fellow people who love photography I’ve found myself really re-invigorated with my own shots. I want to learn from the Minnstagram community and reach new heights with my eye and creativity. Which is probably why I ended up in downtown Minneapolis in the pouring rain on my day off with my camera – but that’s another story. I’m just happy I decided to go to these events, even if they were by myself (in the end I had more fun and made more connections that way probably anyways.) I can’t wait to get together with this group of lovely people again soon!
Do you have an Instagram community? Who are your favorite users to follow?
P.S. – One of my favorite Minnesota places to photograph was the abandoned Kirkbride Asylum.
