Oi vey, it seemed like work kicked my bum this week. I went kind of ghost on all accounts, but sometimes when you get home from the 9-5 you just want to veg. I couldn’t leave you all hanging for over a week, so I figured I’d pop in quick for a fun Friday five.
When it comes to all pop culture matters, I’m strongly opinionated. There aren’t many subjects that I’m simply meh on. I’m a love it or hate it kind of gal. This extends to songs, however I seem to have an unfortunate curse in this area. If I swear I hate a song, I’m almost bound to love it eventually. I call them my second chance songs. The universe loves to have the last laugh it seems.
Of the five recent songs below, I don’t even really remember why I disliked them so strongly in the first place. Except for “Two Heads”, I remember shaking my fist at Avicii and his EDM meets banjo musical movement. That song was the bane of my summer 2014 existence and it was like flashbacks at first.
Now each of these songs are considered massive jams for me. When they come on the radio or my iPod, I blast them instead of skipping them. They even all earned a spot in my recent work out playlist and have been in heavy rotation for purposes of getting me in the zone.
R.I.P. to My Youth – The Neighbourhood
On My Mind – Ellie Goulding
Roots – Imagine Dragons
2 Heads – Coleman Hell
Love Myself – Hailee Steinfeld
There’s already a few new songs that have slowly started to creep up on me, even against my original disdain. Who knows, maybe I’ll have to make this an original feature from time to time.
What song did you hate at first, only to eventually think it as a jam?
