I know I already raved about this song on Twitter, but it’s been played on repeat so many times that it was worthy of a Tune Up post too. Florence and The Machine have been spending the last few months hyping their upcoming album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful for release. When Florence Welch released the first song “What Kind A Man” – I thought it couldn’t get better from there. More than an embarrassing number of people caught me belting out the chorus randomly all the time.
Here we are on the fourth single “Delilah” and I may finally be picking favorites. I love this song! While Welch has been open about the latest album diverging from her prior work, “Delilah” is the bridge that gaps both worlds. There’s the energy and sounds of both Lungs and Ceremonials, but with something completely new added.
“Delilah” starts out fairly mellow and works it’s way into a contrasting and more dance-worthy beat by the time the hook kicks in. There’s a simple piano backing that leads the song, but it’s Welch’s melodic voice and her characteristic call and response vocals that really drive it. She has a mighty voice that easily fluctuates between sultry lows and airy highs.
Even though it’s a song about an old testament temptress, “Delilah” is a song full of good vibes. I guess Delilah is teaching us all how to be dancers. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful is out the beginning of June depending on where you live.
What song is making your day just a bit better?
P.S. – Another song that just begs you to get up and move is “Can’t Deny My Love” by Brandon Flowers.
Until next time,
